Lines Off: Freeport to Rockland

First light over the mooring field in South Freeport, minutes before we dropped the lines.

We slipped the mooring in South Freeport at first light on August 10 — fog still lifting off the water, coffee still working on the captains, two kids and two dogs still asleep below. A year of lists, boatyard weekends, and "we should really just go" came down to one quiet moment: lines off.

Day one took us across Casco Bay, past Seguin's lighthouse standing watch in the haze, and into Boothbay Harbor for the night. Day two carried us around Pemaquid Point and across Muscongus Bay to Rockland, where the mile-long granite breakwater makes you feel very official about arriving in Penobscot Bay.

The crew found their sea legs faster than the captains did. You'll hear from them soon — they've been documenting everything.
