Boat Butt Bristol RI 9/28/26

We had the most amazing visit from our dear old friend, captain Chris Baker, a New York City Docking Pilot. Both Ben and I worked with Chris in different capacities when we were all small boat captains. He’s an awesome guy and it was so fun to catch up. All three of us had gotten our start in the commercial boating world at Hurricane Island then all worked together in Freeport & Portland waterfronts (Bustin’s Island Ferry & Portland Water Taxi). Chris took it to the NEXT LEVEL and obtained one of the most sought after professional commercial maritime jobs that exists- docking pilot!!! It was so fun hearing about his career and his family! Thx for the bread & coffee too!

Swamp ass. Boat butt. Soggy bottom. Many descriptors for what’s wrong with my butt right now. I first learned about Boat Butt while working at Hurricane Island Outbound School and living on pulling boats. You develop this horrible butt rash due to prolonged sitting/rowing with a wet butt. It was nasty! Thankfully, I don’t have the full-blown version, but my butt is generally constantly damp after these many days of rain. As soon as it dries out, it gets wet again. Everting is just MOIST & DAMP on the boat. It kinda sucks! Ben per usual seems unfazed and continues to go about his business in cotton clothing. This blows my mind as I am in full expedition style clothing, and still complaining of a wet ass.

The storm is over but the rain continues….

Plan is to bust it out of Narragansett Bay tomorrow and head towards Point Judith to set us up for entering into Long Island Sound.
