NYC - Atlantic Highlands NJ - sailing to Atlantic City

Sunny and warm

Thank you so much Jeff Smith for hosting us for almost 5 days!!!! We had so much fun w/ Felix and Belle. We loved meeting your mom Betty, sister and niece. Thank you for the cheer, many games played at your kitchen island and yummy food.
We left the city and headed back to the boat Port Washington, NY to get ready for next leg. Port Washington is a boater's paradise, everyone is very nice, lots of boating facilities and Stop n'Shop, Target and TJMaxx within walking distance of an awesome dinghy dock! The girls were PSYCHED!! Once we were topped off w/ fuel, water and dinghy gas + some food and unless shit from TJMaxx we got underway.
Sunny warm and breezy CRAZY ride through the city! It was so beautiful and the old big boat LuRu hit her record speed of 10.5 knots through Hell's Gate. We went under 10 bridges.
Spent the night in a very cool spot near Sandy Hook called Atlantic Highlands- very boater friendly! Beautiful little anchorage protected by a nice breakwater and very cute walkable downtown. Both of these 2 ports we will definitely hit on the way home next spring. We had a pre dawn start this morning because the weather is perfect for the long slog along the Jersey coast. The inlets are too shallow to duck into so it's 85 miles to Atlantic City- that's a 14 hour day for us! First real test of what will happen on longer passages with the mutts.
