Cape May NJ (waiting out another storm)
We had a solid 14- hour day going from Atlantic Heights, New Jersey, to Atlantic City, New Jersey. Good strong beam reach, motor sailed, hit 8 knots a few times. Had a beautiful transition into the evening and night with Ruby at the helm. Ben got a lot of work done, I managed to get some weighted vest workouts in while driving the boat.. The kids did a lot of schooling/movie watching/hanging out. It was our biggest day yet, and everyone did great! Lots of sail tweaking. When we finally got ashore the dogs didn’t even rush to pee/poop. They kind of sniffed, walked around, and then finally peed. This was their first big long day test, and they did awesome!
Next morning, I had a great run around the local neighborhoods, met an awesome guy named Paul, and his multiple cats. Everyone got to shower ashore, get to meet a lot of curious fishermen on the dock about what the hell we were doing, and where we were going.
We had a good downwind motor sale about 45 miles to Cape May to ride out the remnants of the hurricane. We sprung for a marina slip for this storm, which I have to say is a baller maneuver- being able to walk the dogs during the wind and rain right off the boat and not have to deal with the dinghy is my 50th birthday present to myself:) PS, I don’t turn 50 till April so I anticipate a few of these gifts to myself over this next year:) really fun evening on the docks, chatting with all the other transient liveaboards. Met some awesome characters that I hope we can stay close with on our run down the East Coast. Dear old friend, Lee Nelson, drove over from Philadelphia for a fun night with us and to watch the Eagles game on Sunday morning:)
