Up Delaware Bay

We had the BEST stay at South Jersey Marina! The people there were sooooo friendly & helpful! There was a mass exodus that started at 0300 of most of the transient live aboards and boats doing any long transits up towards Chesapeake. We said goodbye to all our new friends, exchange numbers, and we’re sure we’ll see them along the way to the Bahamas. All four of us enjoyed a serious day off during the stormy rain on Sunday. Ben and Leigh went and watched the Eagles game. It started at 9:30 in the morning, playing in London:) Tough loss right at the end:( Meanwhile, the girls and I were practicing extreme laziness, it’s an awesome sport to be played on stormy rainy days! In the afternoon, the rain stopped and everyone emerged from below decks. We went to the Harriet Tubman museum, really great tour guide. Harriet Tubman spent a lot of time in Cape May working to make money to help free her family and lots of other enslaved people. We also learned about the first 2 ships to bring enslaved Africans to the shore of what was to become Virginia, well before Plymouth, in 1619. The White Lion (British privateer ship that had captured African enslaved people headed to Mexico from a Portuguese ship) and the Treasure.

Yesterday when the rain stopped, we looked to each other and said, uh-oh, now we have to be productive. Ben took a hit for the team and fixed the forward head (shitty job💩) which had annoying three-year leak. I did a full cleanout and revamp it up the refrigerator and freezer, we fixed the broken freezer. Had a lunch at the local Wawa. Then prepped for the next leg of our journey with water, laundry, showers, oil change, grocery shopping and general cleaning.

We’re headed up Delaware Bay, towards the C&D Canal, then into the Chesapeake tomorrow.

The girls ads on THE LOOK OUT for other teen/kid boats! All the Liveaboards use an app call No Foreign Land what shows in real time where everyone is:) It’s quite cool. The hope is to meet up with other Teen Boats Annapolis boat show this weekend (if we make it to the weather, etc).

Leaving Cape May. Cape May is one of the largest freezing/processing plants for fish in New Jersey. The fleet here uses these boats to drag for scallops, clams, lobster, and then can transition to fishing depending on the season.
