Back on the water again, down the Chesapeake
Our boat moved SLOW! We max out at 8.5 knots which is about 10 mph with some strains current (East River in NYC) but our usual speed is about 5-6 knots, about 6 mph!!!!!!!! Imagine driving to Florida at 6 mph?! I’m pretty sure folks bike much FASTER then that! In our big days we move only 80 miles and that’s rare. We definitely can sail IF the wind is abeam and aft of our beam (behind us) and strong! We always have the sails AND motor running to go asa fast as possible. Yesterday we got to sail on and off with the ENGINE OFF!!!! The peace and quiet is soooooooooo special!!!! We are on a mission to get SOUTH so we’re not cool with plodding along at 3 knots.
When we’re underway we:
Scrutinize the charts & cruising guides for next stop planning
Do work to make money
School work
Craft
Do nothing
Argue
Wash dishes
Cuddle dogs
Personal grooming
Nail painting
Read
Cook
Shower
Organize something
Argue some more
Watch TV
Have a sibling brawl
Then be besties again
Clean up the galley
Do more dishes
Someone has to be actually driving the boat so they’re is a lot of trading and covering for each other’s pee breaks etc.
We had another nice stop at the Dowzer’s up the Severn River, anchored off of their pier, picked up our Amazon packages & did a few loads of laundry. We spent the afternoon chatting with Cathy and she gave the girls some good art activities and a cool book. Thank you Dowzers!
We pulled into Oxford MD yesterday per Christa’s Dem-Gonza’s recommendation (my dear friend, college roommate & collegiate sailing partner). She wasn’t joking- it was SO CUTE! We loved it! Had an amazing sunset dinner at Doc’s Sunset Bar. This am was 🥶and the sun rises at 0730! So no more up-and-at-‘em for this crew. We were ashore for our Town-Tour-Family-Jog by a n early 0930:) Super cute town, great market, shop and coffee shop! We will definitely be back!!!
