Eastern Shore Chesapeake: Oxford, Smith Island & Onancock

Wild shores of the Hudson Creek, Little Choptank River

Next time I do this trip, no one with hair will be invited. I’m choking on dog hair, human hair and beard trimmings. I’m going CRAZY! We (I) vacuum 2x per day. Ruby brushes the dogs a lot and I’m still afraid that a hair ball airway obstruction is the way I’ll go out! 3 people with long hair. There are long hairs in the job sheets! OOOOMMMMGGGG!!!! My best friend on this boat is my Dyson vacuum. We love each other, we understand each other.

Besides the burden of being and living with mammals, life is pretty good:)
We have been loving exploring the Chesapeake Eastern Shore.

We left Oxford and headed towards a wee little town that we could not reach due to a very shallow harbor entrance so we found a beautiful “wild” anchorage and had an amazing sunset and peaceful night.
Then we attempted to get into Smith Island harbor entrance at FALLING TIDE AT SUNSET…wicked smart! We went aground and it took a lot of bow thrusting and jamming into hard reverse but Ben got us unstuck! The bottom is almost always sandy mud so it’s NBD for this big old gal to bump her way along! We’re very glad for her big ass keel that is unaffected by some easy groundings:)

We turned around and anchored in what felt like the freakin’ middle of Chesapeake Bay but it was a calm night and I got a sweet shot of the boat when I took the doggies ashore to pee:)

The next day we took the dinghy into Smith Island to explore. It was very quiet, we did see some folks out and about, crabbing and oystering culture, tourism that was very shut down for the season. All of the streets were set with puddles from coastal flooding.

After exploring for a bit we had a busy day moving the boat, both Ben & I working a lot, kids doing a lot of schooling but then we were rewarded with an awesome trip up the Onancock Creek 6 miles to Onancock and a perfect little marina:) We were getting due for some shoreside services (at least we weren’t going to turn them down). WE LOVE this town and can’t wait to come back. The marina had free laundry and a free courtesy car. Very cute little town all walking from the boat. Great anchoring very close by. The girls and I had a great motion jog to explore before they hit THE BAKERY! Why else would you go jogging???!! We spent the day working, schooling, erranding and living the warm sun!!
